Last night on #indiechat the topic was on how you define author success. What we discovered during our conversation is that success is defined differently in many ways.
A storify of the full chat is here. Remember, we’re here every Tuesday, 9pm EST.
Some highlights from our lively discussion on how authors measure success.
How do you define indie author success?
Steady SUCCESS #indiechat I don't try to judge it. Some years good payout some not – Publishing/Writing/ Sales Job based on commission

I think the best goal is to write as much as poss. & work on your craft. Writing is about the magic of being lost inside stories. #indiechat

@BiblioCrunch I measure success by avid readers gained. Not the "overnight success" stuff. #indiechat

.@BiblioCrunch I tend 2 gage my success by the readers returning to buy the 3 film-optioned novels or the entire 10-novel series! #indiechat

.@christinenolfi Thank you!I'm grateful I've done well enough with my books that I've been able 2 quit day job 2 write full time. #indiechat

@BookBaby For me, the real joy appears by topping the last novel. Always improving. Part of the reason we create. #indiechat

Agree! RT @miralsattar: I think if you get positive reviews and get folks to finish and recommend to a friend, that's huge! #indiechat

@miralsattar @lemonbar77 I guess for our topic today, we can conclude that SUCCESS IS HARDWORK. No other way around it. #indiechat

.@miralsattar I found my "Please don't buy my books…" tweets, encouraging people to read sample chapters 1st helped a lot! #indiechat

Lover of books. CEO & founder of Bibliocrunch. Love storytelling in all its forms. Formerly TIME. I'm a new media entrepreneur who has worked in the media industry for 11 years. My mission is simple – to innovate the publishing industry with technology. My company has been featured in BBC World News, Money Magazine, Bloomberg, Consumer Reports, Forbes, WSJ, MediaBistro, PBS, Columbia Journalism Review, The Next Web, Publishers Weekly, and a bunch of other places. Bibliocrunch was also selected as The Next Big Thing in media by the Paley Center. I also used to run a popular South Asian culture blog called Divanee. Before I ran my own company and became a mom, I used to be on the board for several literacy organizations, and wrote a LOT more. Hopefully, when things are calmer I can go back to that! :)
