To find justice for those he loved, a man finds himself at the center of a dangerous global conspiracy…

When Jon Sommers finds out his fiancé Lisa Gabriel died in a terrorist bomb attack, he is visited by spymaster, Yigdal Ben-Levy, who throws Jon’s life into chaos, when he tells him that Lisa was not a fellow graduate student but a Mossad spy sent to bring him to Israel. Ben-Levy convinces Jon to seek justice for Lisa’s murder by joining Mossad and going after Tariq Houmaz, her killer.

Shortly after training, Jon’s entire new team is executed by the bomb maker, who murdered Lisa, and only Jon escapes the massacre. As he leaves the scene, Jon finds himself captured, threatened and turned into a double agent for MI-6. When his Mossad handler, Ben-Levy learns this, he wants Jon dead as an example to other Israeli coverts.

If being a hunted double agent isn’t enough, Jon comes across information in his spying for MI-6 that suggests Israel is in impending danger from Houmaz. To stop this catastrophe, Jon must put together his own team, one he can trust with his life. Can Jon bring justice to Lisa’s murderer, or will millions of lives be lost?

Reviews

  • “A young man finds out that his deceased parents were Mossad agents and that the woman he loves wants to recruit him to follow in their footsteps in the first novel in the Spies Lie series.

Jon Sommers has just received an MBA degree and is ready to begin a job as a banker and a life with his beautiful and mysterious fiancée, Lisa Gabriel. When Lisa heads to Israel to visit her mother, however, Jon wonders what secrets she may be hiding there. The answer comes tragically to light when a terrorist’s bomb kills Lisa and Jon discovers that she was actually a Mossad agent named Aviva Bushovsky, sent to recruit him to join the Israeli spy agency and follow in the footsteps of his parents, who died when he was young. Hungry to avenge Lisa’s death, Jon begins training with the Mossad to become an assassin. However, his mission to trail the bomb maker who may have been responsible for Lisa’s death goes disastrously wrong. Jon finds himself mixed up with British intelligence agents who want him to turn double and Mossad operatives who want to kill him, and he’s not entirely sure whom if anyone, to trust. Despite these obstacles, he continues his quest to find Lisa’s killer, only to discover that a suspect is engineering a plot that could result in the annihilation of Israel. Kane (DeathByte, 2014) has a background in espionage, and his insider’s knowledge of the subject shines through in the precise and authentic details he conveys. That attention to detail helps to keep readers on track even as the plot splits off into more and more tangled strands. The story’s biggest weakness is its protagonist; Jon’s obsession with avenging Lisa’s death, along with his continually hearing her angry voice in his head, quickly loses its ability to heighten tension. The majority of the supporting characters, including master hacker William Wing, his female counterpart, Betsy “Butterfly” Brown, and Mossad spymaster Yigdal Ben-Levy, are much more compelling.

A globe-trotting spy thriller dense with intriguing insider’s knowledge.” — Kirkus Reviews
