There’s a moment in every writer’s life where they realize they were born and put on this Earth to tell stories. For me, it was in 7th grade when a fire drill left me and my fellow classmates stranded outside for several hours (which was of course an eternity back then). During that time I had nothing but a composition book and a pencil to keep me company.

I had always been one to write here and there, but in that moment I sat down by myself and I started crafting an insane tale of how the fire drill was real, how our English teacher was an evil being who started it, and how we were all in danger. As you can probably tell, I wasn’t a big fan of her at the time.

After that day, and after the positive feedback I got from my fellow students, I knew I wanted to be a writer. If you’ve had that moment, but you feel like you need help getting yourself up to the standards that today’s industry demands, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

Becoming a Better Writer

Maybe you want to be professional writer online, or maybe your ultimate goal is simply getting published. Either way, you’re going to need some key skills to find success in this competitive industry. A friend of mine once said that writers are a dime-a-dozen and while that’s true, the truly great ones are much harder to come by.

When pursuing your goals, you should always measure your success as a writer, but know that you should never stop improving either. Here are some quick ways to start improving your writing ability right now:

  • Start with a simple story (something understandable that people can relate to)
  • Ask a question (something profound, without a “yes” or “no” answer)
  • Experiment with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person perspectives
  • Talk it out with your friend/significant other
  • Start with the ending
  • Write about thing you know a lot about
  • Mimick your favorite writers

Finding Success as a Writer (Infographic)

Everyone has the ability to write, that’s not the problem. Finding success as a writer is a lot more complicated than it sounds. That’s why today I’m bringing you an infographic that bundles together a huge amount of information into one simple and easy place.

This guide will help you find inspiration, from the best habits possible, speed up your process, and access the tools you need. It even helps you with the technical side of writing if you decide to work on a blog or online website.
