If anyone can teach us about optimism in the face of overwhelming odds, Helen Keller seems like a good candidate.

And being a self-published author in today’s market can resemble desperation. So many books are added to Amazon every day and it’s difficult for an author to get any kind of visibility. Sometimes we feel lost in a sea of books. Our marketing efforts seem like a shot in the dark. Is all of our hard work for nothing?

What we need is a little optimism.

Let’s start this pep talk with some definitions, compliments of dictionary.com

Optimism, noun

1.

a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.

2.

the belief that good ultimately predominates over evil in the world.

3.

the belief that goodness pervades reality.

4.

the doctrine that the existing world is the best of all possible worlds.
Hope, noun
the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best
Confidence, noun

1.

full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of person or thing:

Notice what all these beautiful nouns have in common: a choice to believe that things will work out.

You know what else is a choice? Success.
